Welcome to the Noël Barker Naive Art Gallery
It's a little difficult to categorize your own work but I have tried to restrict this selection into five broad categories so that you can focus on specific areas of interest
This is a recent experiment taking a more abstract approach to my normal naïve style. I've dabbled with this in the
past, including some in this collection, but I have recently been extending this in a number of different ways.
I travel quite a lot with India and Mexico a particular fascination. The people are so
colourful and simply crying out to be painted.
What can I say about animals?! They are always with us, quite individual in their own way and
great to paint.
This was a real change for me. I have painted both real life and naïve like
views of still life subjects keeping to the vivid colours and simple form.
A never ending source of inspiration. Each person has a story to tell in terms of the feelings , looks and interaction
with one another. Naïve painting allows me to take a snapshot of those individual “stories”
and sprinkle them over the canvass.
This section contains a mixture of styles that have more of a serious adult
quality. The landscapes are produced by working with thick paint dragging one colour through
another. Wonderful to do. Others are pictures of my children when young in scenes I captured from
our travels such as sailing up the Seine.
